Narrada en primera persona por la propia Tessa, Suburgatory (Fuera de Lugar) cuenta con la participación de Jeremy Sisto (A dos metros bajo tierra, Ley y orden) y de Jane Levy (Shameless) en sus papeles principales como un padre divorciado y una hija inteligente y muy madura para su edad que deben adaptarse a su nueva vida y nuevos vecinos. De hecho, Tessa se tendrá que acostumbrar a vivir entre madres de clase acomodada (totalmente operadas) dedicadas a las labores del hogar y a las reuniones sociales así como con las hijas de éstas; chicas jóvenes que sólo tienen en la cabeza ser todavía más horteras que sus progenitoras, mantenerse extremadamente delgadas y ser un pelín plásticas y coloridas a la hora de vestir.
